* About the Sacrament of Matrimony:
Before marriage: Your job is to get to know one another and to develop the level
of commitment that you will need for one another, to the family you will create,
and to God and the Christian life. You will avoid many problems by taking your
time, talking to one another, and deciding to make God a central part of your
family life.
The couple who's having problems: Early help from your pastor or a counselor can help you avoid separation or divorce in the future. Your children deserve your trying your hardest to keep the family together.
When separation or divorce is unavoidable (for example when a spouse or the children are beaten or abused): Speak with your pastor so that you will have spiritual support during this difficult process. Divorce does not separate you from God or the Church. All people who are baptized and try to follow Christ are invited to receive the Sacraments, including Communion. At the same time, the children need you both. These decisions must be made seriously and upon reflexion and prayer - and with understanding and sensitivity for your children, who are your main responsibility. The Episcopal Church allows remarriage after divorce. Talk about it with your pastor.
Jesus said, "The first commandment is this:
Hear, o Israel: The Lord our God is the only Lord.
Love the Lord your God with all your heart,
with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength.
The second is this:
Love your neighbor as yourself.
There is no other commandment greater than these.
What are the 10 commandments?
They are the laws given to Moses and to the people of Israel.
What is our duty to God?
Our duty is to believe and trust in God;
I - To love and obey God and to bring others to know him;
II - To put nothing in the place of God;
III - To show God respect in thought, word, and deed;
IV - And to set aside regular times for worship, prayer, and the study of God's ways.
What is our duty to our neighbors?
Our duty to our neighbors is: to love them as ourselves, and to do to other people as we wish them to do to us;
V - To love, honor, and help our parents and family; to honor those in authority, and to meet their just demands;
VI - To show respect for the life God has given us; to work and pray for peace; to
bear no malice, prejudice, or hatred in our hearts; and to be kind to all the creatures of God;
VII - To use our bodily desires as God intended;
VIII - To be honest and fair in our dealings; to seek justice, freedom, and the necessities
of life for all people; and to use our talents and possessions as ones who must answer for them to God;
IX - To speak the truth, and not to mislead others by our silence;
X - To resist temptations to envy, greed, and jealousy; to rejoice in other people's gifts and graces; and to do our duty for the
love of God, who has called us into fellowship with him.
Hear the commandments of God to his people:
1. I am the Lord your God who brought you out of bondage. You shall have no other gods but me.
2. You shall not make for yourself any idol.
3. You shall not invoke with malice the Name of the Lord your God.
4. Remember the Sabbath day and keep it holy.
5. Honor your father and your mother.
6. You shall not commit murder.
7. You shall not commit adultery.
8. You shall not steal.
9. You shall not be a false witness.
10. You shall not covet anything that belongs to your neighbor.
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your Name,
your kingdom come,
your will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
Forgive us our sins
as we forgive those
who sin against us.
Save us from the time of trial,
and deliver us from evil.
For the kingdom,
the power,
and the glory are yours,
now and forever. Amen.
Hail Mary, full of grace,
the Lord is with you.
Blessed are you among women,
and blessed is the fruit of your womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary, mother of God,
pray for us sinners
now and at the hour of our death. Amen.
Glory to the Father, and to the Son,
and to the Holy Spirit:
as it was in the beginning, is now,
and will be forever. Amen.
I believe in God, the Father almighty,
creator of heaven and earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord.
He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit
and born of the Virgin Mary.
He suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died, and was buried.
He descended to the dead.
On the third day he rose again.
He ascended into heaven,
and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come again
to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy catholic Church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and the life everlasting. Amen.
Start and end with the Sign of the Cross.
Keep watch, dear Lord, with those who work, or watch, or weep this night, and give your angels charge over those who sleep. Tend the sick, Lord Christ; give rest to the weary, bless the dying, soothe the suffering, pity the afflicted, shield the joyous; and all for your love's sake. Amen.
The Lord's Prayer, Hail Mary, Gloria Patri
Guide us waking, O Lord, and guard us sleeping; that awake we may watch with Christ, and asleep we may rest in peace.
Holy Spirit, come to us, remain with us, and enlighten our hearts.
Give us light and strength to know your will, to make it our own, and to live it in our lives.
Guide us by your wisdom, support us by your power, unite us to yourself and our community in the bond of love, and keep us faithful to all that is true.
You live and reign with the Father and the Son, one God, forever and ever.
Amen.
